AUTUMN WARDROBE MUST HAVES - With Gemma, one half of MotherShoppers

September - my favourite month as far as the fashion seasons go. With it comes the anticipation of shiny, new arrivals trickling through the racks of the last (or lost thanks to the 'C' word) of the summer stock. There’s the thrill of the chill in the air (knitwear, red wine, cosy pub lunches by the fire!) yet the weather can be as unpredictable as the rest of 2020. 28 degrees forecast next week, crazy!! But these summer/winter or ‘Swinter’ climes can make getting dressed tricky. Here are my key pieces to ease you through the transition.
Chunky Chelsea Boots
I still get that back to school feeling even now, 39 years after starting school, at buying new term shoes/boots. Although admittedly I now don’t kick them along the kerb to scuff them up on the way home. A chunky black Chelsea boot will instantly update your summer dresses.
A Timeless Trench
The most trusty coat companion, essential for this time of year. Especially if it’s showerproof! I’m lusting after a long, vintage Burberry style, possibly men’s for extra length.
A Monochrome Dress
Monochrome eases effortlessly between seasons. I’m a big fan of the ‘Midaxi’ dress. Easy to dress up or down, pairs perfectly with a leather jacket or layer under with a slip/blouse/polo neck once summer fades. Minimal grooming effort required on the waning tan/hair removal front too.
Shacket
50% shirt, 50% jacket and 100% useful. Vary the length and width according to your style/preference. Khaki, brushed wool check and leather/pleather get my vote.
Leather/Pleather Trousers
An elevated extension of your joggers. Casual enough to wear with tee and trainers, smarten up instantly by adding a blazer & heels. A wardrobe staple that will last for years to come.

These styles are for me. I wore them all in the 1970s.
Thanks for updating me!
